During the Christmas, Marshfield High School held a MISEP holiday party. The students from Jiangsu Provincial Liangfeng Senior Middle School International Department, who are in their senior year at Marshfield High School, also participated in the activity. They made delicious and beautiful Christmas cookies together, and made exquisite German stars out of strips of paper. They had a wonderful and unforgettable time.

Like other Christmas traditions, Christmas cookies have a long history. In the middle ages, Christmas began to replace the winter solstice in many parts of Europe, but the tradition of the winter solstice feast remained, with the pastries greatly changed. Spices like nutmeg, cinnamon and black pepper were used at the time, and dried dates and apricots were also used for sweetness. But these ingredients, along with sugar, lard and butter, were very expensive at the time. Only on the most important holidays, they will be used to made treats, and cookies are popular because they are convenient to give to friends and neighbors. Although there have been many changes to Christmas cookies, they have survived.

At the party, the students decorated Christmas cookies together. The Christmas cookies became the best papers, colorful icing became the best paint, students enjoy their artistic creativity and they made cookies into fine arts.

German Stars

There are a variety of production methods to made Christmas star, in order to achieve a more three-dimensional effect, students used colored scrips to make them. Colored strips of paper flew up and down in the students’ dexterous hands, a beautiful Christmas star was soon made.

Through participating in this activity, the students felt the thick holiday atmosphere of Christmas, deeply understood the national culture of the United States, and established a deep friendship with other international students.
