Nanjing Education Bureau Delegation Visited School District of Janesville (Ⅱ)

On December 10, US time, Nanjing Education Bureau delegation visited Kennedy Elementary School affiliated to School District of Janesville, Wisconsin, USA. The delegation included Qi Shoudong, deputy director of the Nanjing Education Bureau, Wu Bangli, an investigator, Ma Weiqing, an investigator of the Propaganda and Moral Education Office, Yan Biyou, director of the Nanjing Teaching and Research Office, Zhang Yehong, director of the General Affairs Office of Nanjing Zhonghua High School and the teacher, Wu Yazhi. On behalf of the faculty and students of the school, Headmaster Jennifer warmly welcomed the Chinese visitors from afar.

Under the guidance of Headmaster Jennifer, the delegation visited the beautiful campus. Kennedy Elementary School is famous " Blue Ribbon School " and the first elementary school in Janesville to receive this honor. The quality of its education is at the leading level. It is full of energy and character. The classrooms and hallways are elaborately decorated, and students' art works can be seen everywhere. The delegation was full of praise for the design of the campus and agreed with the arrangement to show students' mien.

 During the visit, Headmaster Jennifer introduced the curriculum of the campus to the delegation. The school has rich teaching experience in STEM courses and integrated courses, and has very advanced teaching equipment. She said that in the future cooperation, she would optimize the research and learning activities to give Chinese children better reception and experience.

During the conversation, Director Qi had a deeper understanding of STEM courses. He believes that STEM courses have great help in improving students' scientific and mathematical literacy. Director Qi also learned about the history and exchanges achievements of the school between Nanjing Lasa Road Primary School and Nanjing Luhe Bilingual Primary School. He hopes that the two sides can maintain stable and friendly cooperative relations and make joint efforts to provide Chinese and American students with richer international exchange opportunities, broaden their international horizons and establish international friendship.

 After the campus visit, the delegation had a friendly discussion with the dean of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater teacher development center. The meeting focused on the cooperation between the two sides in teacher training. Dr. Robert Smiley, the CIO and Director of International Education Program of the School District of Janesville, and Mary Christensen, director of International Programs of School District of Janesville, were also present.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is the first normal school in Wisconsin with a long history of 150 years. It provides professional development training for teachers of various subjects throughout the state. It has conducted in-depth research and accumulated sufficient experience in teacher training.

 Director Qi hopes that the two sides could carry out good cooperation on teacher training, and plans to send teachers to Janesville in the future. Dr. Robert Smiley said the School District of Janesville would participate in the program with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, which provides theoretical knowledge for both sides of teacher training, while specific practical activities can be conducted in schools affiliated to the School District of Janesville.

During the talks, both sides expressed their expectation for the cooperation to be carried out as soon as possible, and hoped that through the teacher training program, Chinese and American teachers would have rich exchange opportunities and advanced experience and ideas could be widely spread to more teachers, so that more and more children could receive better education.
