Zhangjiagang Jiyang Senior High School, founded in 1978, is a four-star school in Jiangsu Province. Upholding the core philosophy “Lofty Aspiration and Vigorous Action” and adhering to the school motto “Great Ambition, Pragmatic Spirit,Simple Life and Personal Integrity”,Zhangjiagang Jiyang Senior High School,in its long-running practices, has achieved fruitful results by fully implementing quality-oriented education, winning many honorary titles such as Advanced Unit of Jiangsu Education Society, Jiangsu Garden-Style Unit, Suzhou Civilization Unit, Suzhou Advanced Moral Education School and Suzhou Safe and Civilized School. Right now, the school is marching forward to become a first-class school in South Jiangsu.

Located in the west part of Yangshe Town, the school, adjacent to Zhangjiagang City Museum and Children's Palace, covers an area of 128 mu with 16 labs which are named Jiangsu Standardized Laboratory of Primary and Secondary School. The newly-built library, with an area of nearly 8,000 square meters and a collection of about 120,000 books, is a secondary library in Zhangjiagang City. Meanwhile, the school has also been named Suzhou Model School of Educational Informatization and Suzhou Advanced School of Educational Technique&Equipment for 4 special computer classrooms and 100℅ multimedia coverage in each classroom. At present, 1472 students and 233 faculty members are studying and working here. All live in a harmonious way in such a beautiful campus environment where advanced educational ideas and rich intellectual atmosphere pervade.

In order to create the efficient classroom, the school practices the Target Teaching Strategies as the teaching mode. Under the guidance of learning objectives, students begin actively to study independently, while carrying out group work and inquiry learning, and such a learning mode that focuses on students experience, dialogues between teachers and students and cooperative inquiries has greatly developed their self-learning abilities, stimulated their learning enthusiasm, intensified their learning desires, and improved their learning efficiency, consequently giving back the class to them. With remarkable teaching achievements and rising college entrance performances in successive years, Jiyang Senior High School has been rewarded the first prize in the Comprehensive Quality Assessment for High School Education for years.

The school, in the process of students' self-management, also emphasizes “humanistic care”, develops and carries forward the “moral education”, and carries out the“1,2,3,4 and 5 Educational Projects” in an innovative way (1 means a well trained eloquence; 2 means two special skills & hobbies at least---sports and arts; 3 means that every student should learn how to behave oneself, how to live and how to learn; 4 means that students should watch 40 classic films and television programs during the three years of high school; 5 means that students should read 50 classic novels), so the comprehensive literacy of every student can be enhanced. Guo Qin, who has won the prize and title of China Charity Award and Jiangsu Moral Model, is a great example that the school has cultivated.

Colorful club activities and school-based curricula with distinctive features are also provided here. As of this semester, 24 student clubs have been established including “Healthy Mental” Psychological Club, Literary Club, Basketball Club, Weiqi Club, and 29 school-based courses have been opened for grade one and two, which consists of 10 for Physical Education and Health, 3 for Artistic Quality, 8 for Scientific Literacy, 4 for Career Planning and another 4 for Humanistic Quality. All thees activities and school-based curricula have built a development platform that provides the opportunity for students to fully exert their talents and show strengths, which have been proved by repeatedly achieving good results in the Jiangsu Mathematical Olympiad for High School Students, obtaining the team prize in the sixth Jiangsu Network Reading Activities for Primary and Secondary School, winning the first prize as a group in the fifth Mandarin, Dialect and Spoken English Competition, receiving the first prize in the Art Performances for Zhangjiagang High School Students for several times and being awarded the runner-up in the basketball game and the championship and runner-up in the volleyball game for many times.

Mental health education is particularly emphasized in school. Not only are psychology lessons are given in grade 1 and 3, but a Mental Health Day is held in every semester with mental knowledge, mental lectures, debate competition, tabloid publishing and campus broadcasting to further promote the healthy growth physically and mentally, hence cultivating the students with self-confidence, optimism and mental health. Because of all the contributions made by the schools, now it has become the experiment base for psycho-education of Jiangsu Psychological Association, and the Advance Unit for Mental Health Education in Primary and Secondary Schools of Jiangsu Psychological Association.

Running with diversity, the school has established the sistership with the Canada Pearson International College for jointly developing the“2+1+4”educational model to open up a new direction for the growth and success of students.
